The summer season is so close, we can almost taste it! No really – with all of the great cookouts going on around the country, we can actually taste it! While everyone has their own favorite part about summer cookouts, for us, it’s all about the BBQ. Did you know that honey actually makes for an unBEElievable secret ingredient when it comes to making your own BBQ sauce? It’s true! Check out some of our favorite recipes that feature this sweet treat:
“Marshall’s Farm Honey” BBQ Sauce
1 cup ketchup
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup Marshall’s Farm Honey
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
-Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium/high heat.
-Whisk until smooth.
-Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or until mixture thickens.
-Remove from heat and serve with your favorite meat or seafood.
Mango Habanero BBQ Sauce
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion (small, minced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tsp ginger (grated)
2 medium mangos (roughly chopped, peeled fresh)
1 cup mango juice
1 cup tomato sauce
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/3 cup Beekeeper’s Blend Honey
1/3 cup cider vinegar
2 tbsp molasses
2 lime
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp yellow mustard
2 habanero chilies (finely chopped, seeded)
2 tsps kosher salt
1 tsp black ground pepper
-Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium heat until shimmering. Add onion and cook until softened. Add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant.
-Stir in mangos, mango juice, tomato sauce, brown sugar, honey, vinegar, molasses, lime juice, Worcestershire, mustard, habanero, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low and simmer until mangos have completely softened and sauce has slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
-Puree sauce until smooth. Let cool to room temperature.
Honey Garlic BBQ Sauce
2 cups ketchup
1 bulb garlic, peeled and crushed
1 cup water
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1/4 cup Wild West Wildflower Honey
2 tablespoons molasses
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
1 pinch paprika
1 pinch crushed red pepper
1 pinch ground white pepper
1 pinch ground black pepper
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
1/2 cup butter
-In a large saucepan over medium low heat, mix together ketchup, garlic, 1 cup water, hot sauce, honey, molasses, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, Cajun seasoning, paprika, red pepper, white pepper and black pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for 30 minutes.
-In a small bowl, dissolve cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water. Adjust amount of water as needed to fully dissolve cornstarch. Stir into the sauce mixture. Continue simmering for 15 minutes.
-Stir butter into the sauce mixture. Continue simmering mixture for 15 more minutes or until butter is melted and the sauce has begun to thicken.
